Improvement of Guidance Services in Order to Steer Young People to Vocational Training

Young unemployment is an issue that must be resolved for the future of young people and also the countries

The young people who are most affected by the consequences of unemployment, which is seen as a global problem. Young unemployment is an issue that must be resolved for the future of young people and also the countries At the same time, the labor market complains about the lack of qualified staff with vocational and technical training.

One of the underlying reasons for this problem is that vocational education in our country is not common enough.

As the Pi Youth Association, the obstacles to youth vocational training orientation were discussed within the scope of the Genç Bak-İş Project and various questions were asked to youths who did not receive vocational training in 81 provinces of Turkey and the reasons why vocational high schools were not preferred by young people were researched. In the light of the datas we have gained as a result of this research, the lack of guidance and counselling the youth to vocational education has come to the forefront.

In this framework, units related to vocational guidance and consultancy services that can be a solution to young unemployment in Turkey need to be expanded and made more functional.

The aim of the project is to create a new model which will play a more active role in guiding the students during the transition between grades, through the understanding of developmental guidance that will include educational, vocational and career counseling services throughout primary and secondary education and will create students' academic skills, interests and special ability profiles.

For this reason, during our project lifetime ,we are planning to establish an online training and consulting platform in order to provide the guiding teachers in these schools the same guidance programme in European standard guidance.

The first six months of the project were planned as research, the next 1 year is for preparation of online content and getting it ready for usage, the next one year is for implementation and monitoring and the last 6 months as evaluation and reporting the outputs.

To this end, partnerships will be established with Germany, which has been a frontrunner in vocational training, and Finland, which has succeeded in academic education, and an online training program will be developed for guidance teachers in Turkey.

We will improve our guidance services, with the knowledge and experiences of our partners in Germany and Finland and we will provide more genuine vocational training with this newly developed online training programme.
This will be a concrete step to reduce young unemployment in the medium and long term.

We accept applications from other programme countries as we want to realize our project with 5 partners in total, including Germany and Finland as partners.
