European ECOFestivals

Exchange of best practices, knowledge and creative ideas to better the ecological impact of european cultural events.

Collectif Parasites is a french popular education and cultural association based in the rural area of Avesnois in the North of France. Founded in 2011 to support a local festival organized by a young group of friends, the association has since evolved a lot. With a team of 7 staff members and over 20 yearly-active volunteers, the Collective's activities are now divided into 4 categories :

• Culture : organization of the Paradisiac Field ecofestival every two years, concerts, managing of a local cinema, participation in many local events...

• Audiovisual : Prodution, directing, editing of photo and video content, graphic design, media and information education for local youth...

• Support for local associations and initiatives : animation of multiple networks to support and help the emergence of innovative projects in the region, creation of training opportunities for project managers...

• Experimental activities : eco-scenography, production of local apple juice and beer, construction of dry toilets...

We consider environnemental issues to be one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century, which is why all of our choices and actions are made while focusing on ensuring their sustainability. Whether by supporting local solidary projects, local agricultural transitions, or innovating on how cultural events can lower their carbon footprint, we try our best to stimulate responsible creativity. With over 10 years of experience in cultural events and sustainable practices we would now love to share and further our know-how and reflection, by broadening our perspectives with European partnerships.

The project :

Festivals have an important ecological footprint : from the use of energy, water, materials to the production of all types of waste and emissions, events like these consume a lot of resources. With the environment being a rising preoccupation in world politics, many economic sectors are starting to experiment with greener alternatives to their traditional practices. The cultural events sector is one of them, as the label “A Greener Festival” symbolises : many large festivals have started implementing reusable cups and cutlery, waste recycling, counterbalancing their CO2 emissions... Smaller festivals are both at an advantage and at a disadvantage when it comes to these choices : small-scaled events facilitate waste control and reduce CO2 emissions, but smaller budgets also have an impact on the solutions that can be mobilized. We would like to build this European project with small cultural events (max.10 000 attendees) to facilitate finding common grounds.

We wish to create a partnership with 2 European cultural event organizations through either Youth Exchange KA105 or Small-Scale Partnerships KA210.
We would like to cooperate around 3 mobility sessions, gathering around 21 participants, during which through non-formal learning, collective life and workshops, we could exchange best pratices, knowledge, and discover each others' institutional ecosystems to understand each others' opportunities. Our general idea is to propose a frame in which each participant can share, learn, teach, discover and experiment with a multitude of ideas applicable to their event. If wished and possible, we could also imagine sharing and facilitating artist mobility in the future!

GENERAL OBJECTIVES :
1. Stimulate collective intelligence to find realistic tools and ideas to reduce our events' carbon footprints.
2. Discover, question, observe different institutional, financial, territorial frameworks
3. Through collective life, build trust and common creativity to explore wider partnership options

We are searching for organizations from any country in the Erasmus+ program, willing to cooperate in the conception, development and participate in the project. If you are interested and/or would like to know more about us or the project, please send us a brief introduction.
