EUdentity: visual arts for a European Identity

“EUdentity” is a youth exchange in which we would like to talk about the concept of European identity and the values of the European Union. The need to relate to these topics arises from the constant theme of strengthening the European identity, which is questioned every day by various events that shake the foundations of unity on which the European Union is based (episodes of racism, extremist political fringes gaining power, socio-economic tensions etc…) It is, therefore, important to relate to other European realities to continue to understand the points in common, the differences and all the elements that lead us to be European citizens.
To do this we will make use of two visual arts with a strong impact: comics and videomaking. Participants will build a narrative using these two languages, creating a project aimed at analyzing personal and collective (national and European) identity.
The exchange will therefore be based on the potential of those visual arts, storytelling and the discussion with regard to feeling European citizens, highlighting the similarities and differences of the various countries. The results that emerge from the comparisons will translate into the collective creation of a comic and a video.

OBJECTIVES:
• To help participants to explore the art of video making and comics and understand how they can be a powerful tool to reach personal development and social change;
• To analyse which is the current situation of the concept of European Identity in the different countries in order to produce accurate, diverse and relevant material;
• To provide the opportunity to learn more about different types of visual arts which could be used after the project in their professional and personal life;
• To promote intercultural dialogue through the power of storytelling, visual languages and different kind of narratives;
• To promote Europe as a common background, fostering a European sense of identity;
• To promote reflection and self-analysis both at a group and personal level for better awareness of oneself and one's own abilities.
