ALLEGRE – Let’s embellish the medieval borough!

To embellish is to make something prettier and this is exactly what this international workcamp is offering you to do alongside the town's inhabitants !

Project:
To embellish is to make something prettier, more attractive and also more charming. And this is exactly what this international workcamp is offering you to do, alongside the town's inhabitants who will be there to encourage you along the way!
Allègre is a medieval town with a very rich heritage. At an altitude of 1,000 meters, the remains of a classified castle overlook the village. Today, only the 14th century archway named "La Potence" remains. The village is crossed by old pedestrian alleys, locally called "Charreyrons". During 7 summers, international volunteers relayed to renovate these alley-ways and the remaining of the castle. This year; we do invite you to intervene both on the rehabilitation of a dry stone wall and on taking the weeds out of the castle site to enhance it. Local celebrations, meals with the inhabitants and the discovery of the region will be on your workcamp schedule!

Work:
The morning’s activities on the worksite will be varied, as this project gives you the chance to both restore local heritage and protect the environment! When you will work at the castle, you will be cleaning up the surrounding area (cutting away bushes and plants, clearing away rocks and scrubbing the joints of the low stone wall in order to improve the appearance of the stones). When you will work in the castle alley-way, you will learn how to rebuild a dry-stone wall from the base upwards, taught to you by a specialized technical instructor.

Accommodation and food:
Allègre’s school, located in the village center, will be made available to the group. You will sleep on mattresses on the floor, in three classrooms on the first floor. On the ground floor you will use the fully-equipped kitchen and a large activity room for socializing. The showers and toilets are also on site.
The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. The budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the preparation of dishes with good products from the market and local producers.

Location and leisure:
Allègre is a small town located in the Haute-Loire County in the Auvergne region, 30 km north of Le-Puy-en-Velay city. It is a village located in the Natural Regional Park of Livradois-Forez, with picturesque alleyways and red roofed houses, built on the slopes of an extinct volcano, the "Mont Bar". From the "Potence" (gallows) at the top end of the village you can look out across hundreds of kilometers of countryside! You will have the chance to go swimming in lakes, to attend local celebrations and take part in outdoor leisure activities. For more information visit: http://www.mairie-allegre.com and http://www.auvergnevacances.com.
