The Partner-Finding Tool
The leadership and role of young people in conflict prevention and resolution is increasingly recognized as an essential element in building lasting peace.
Two-thirds of the world’s conflicts are in Africa. In particular, the Great Lakes region (Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Tanzania) continues to see conflicts that are complex, extreme and seemingly intractable. The youth are generally considered as the pillar of society. However, over the last many years, the views, power and potentials of the youth in the Great Lakes Region (GLR) have not been effectively harnessed in peace building initiatives. Despite their ever-increasing numbers and influence at community level; young people are frequently overlooked in programmes for the prevention, response and transformation of conflicts. Efforts at peace building continue to falter in the region and this illustrates the need to construct a more inclusive peace making process, taking into account the insights and values of those most affected especially the youth. The project is relevant to sustainable development goal 16 of Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions but also relevant to the challenges affecting youth constructive participation in peace building and their effectiveness in harnessing their power and potential for building sustainable peace and reconciliation in the Great Lakes Region which is essential for economic growth and national socio- economic transformation and sustainable development. The project is meant to strengthen youth actions / initiatives in the Great Lakes region and enhancing the exchange of information and experience between them across the region, promote practical solutions to mitigate their isolation and fragmentation and creating a more robust cross-border and / or regional dynamic and facilitate the youth engagement with other (public, private, civil or community led) actors and the linkages between youth initiatives and broader processes in favour of long lasting peace and stability in the region. The project will address the need to construct a more inclusive peace making process, taking into account the insights and values of those most affected especially the youth in the Great Lakes Region. The project will work with other development partners like the governments in the Great Lakes Region and other Non-Governmental organisation to avoid implementing the same activities that are being implemented by those other development initiatives. WE ARE STRICTLY LOOKING FOR PARTNERS FROM GREAT LAKES REGION,RWANDA,DR.CONGO & TANZANIA
