Stichting art.1

Stichting art.1 is a foundation working in the field of anti-discrimination, LGBT rights, and stands for promoting citizens’ inclusion and activating participation in local culture and community life. The underlying methodology of our work is artivism, activism through the arts.

Our objectives:
> Sharing the method of digital storytelling with youth workers and train them how to use it while working with LGBTI youth;
> Creating a space for peaceful and non-judgmental dialogue for communities with different experiences
> Raising awareness concerning the situation of LGBTI youngsters in different countries (we work in the EU, the Western Balkans, Carribean, Caucasus region)
> Empowering and supporting young people through creating and sharing their personal digital stories through soft skill methodologies.

We are working on film production (I AM GAY AND MUSLIM (2012), The Turkish Boat (2013). Both films deal with issues regarding homosexuality and faith. In our projects we try to fight xenophobia and discrimination. Social inclusion, participation and equal rights are key themes for us. Apart from digital storytelling, we work in the field of theater production and we organise community driven events on arts and human rights/LGBTQ rights.

The topics we deal with are usually centered around article 1 of the Constitution of the Netherlands: no-one shall be discriminated on religious beliefs, gender, political or sexual grounds. This means we fight the negative phenomen of discrimination, different ethnic minorities and young children and women facing violence, marginalisation, xenophobia etc.

The target group we are addressing our projects are young people from 18 years of age, because we strongly believe that this is the age when they should start taking seriously their own responsibility of their actions.

We look forward to set up international cooperation and are looking for international partnerships (KA-2 and KA-3).
