Penamacor Municipality

Penamacor is a municipality of Beira Baixa, belonging to the District of Castelo Branco. It is bordered to the north by the municipality of Sabugal, to the south by the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova, to the west by Fundão and to the east by the Spanish Extremadura region.
The distances from the county seat to the larger urban centers are 48 kilometers for Covilhã, 50 for Castelo Branco and 66 for Guarda.

- Administrative Organization -
The municipality is composed of 12 parishes: Águas, Aldeia do Bispo and Aldeia de João Pires (in Union of Parishes), Bemposta and Pedrógão (in Union of Parishes), Aranhas, Benquerença,
Meimoa, Meimão, Penamacor, Salvador and Vale da Lady of Póvoa.
Nowadays, the Municipal Council of Penamacor is the autonomous body of this municipality and it is
up to you to promote the development of the municipality in all areas of life, such as health,
education, social action and housing, environment and basic sanitation, land planning and urban planning, transport and communications, public supply, sport and culture, consumer protection and civil protection.

OUR MISSION: Define and execute policies in order to defend the interests and meet the needs of the local population.

INTELLIGENT GROWTH:
This domain includes development through knowledge, encouraging policies that promote the
education of the population, like for exemple, EU Citizenship, EU awareness and Democracy, International cooperation and development cooperation with other countries and try to explore new aproches to reach out dialogue with other international decision makers, as well as the development of innovation and the use of new technologies.In this respect, there are three initiatives in this area; education, research and innovation and digital society that we would like to take even further beyond.

SUSTAINABLE GROWTH:
Sustainable growth is about developing a resource-efficient, greener and more competitive economy. There are two initiatives in this area: an efficient Europe in terms of resources, an industrial policy for the globalization era.

INCLUSIVE GROWTH:
Inclusive growth presupposes a commitment to an economy with a high employment rate that
ensures economic, social and territorial cohesion.
The major focus of this area lies in the creation of more and better jobs, investment in skills
acquisition and lifelong learning, modernization of labor markets and social protection systems.
There are two initiatives in this field: the agenda for new skills and jobs and the European platform
against poverty.
In turn, this strategy will influence the operational plan of the center region and the strategies of the intermunicipal communities. In order to make the most of Community funds in the 2014-2020 framework, it is important that the strategic development of the Municipality of Penamacor be aligned with the strategic options of the higher territorial units (Beira Baixa Inter-municipal Community, CCDR Center and European Union).
On the other hand, the participation of the community in the process of strategic development of the municipality of Penamacor appears as a preponderant factor for the success of the whole project. In this sense, our proposal presupposes the involvement of the main agents of the municipality in the main phases of the project.

HISTORY AND NATURE:
is the slogan that spontaneously comes to mind when traveling through the municipality of
Penamacor. The landscape diversity is well-known in the contrast between the north of green valleys and intensely forested hills, from where picturesque water courses descend, and the south, which opens to the plain of Castelo Branco, where the sobreiral dominates, with its characteristic ecosystems.
The Nature Reserve of Serra da Malcata, with about 16348 hectares of protected área and also
home to the protected species of the Iberian Lynx, two thirds of which are part of the municipality of Penamacor, offers lovers of nature full of life and charm, regardless of the season of the year that you visit.
