Ministry of Youth and Sports

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is the central public institution which ensures the development strategy for the implementation of the Governmental Programme in the fields of youth and sports. It assesses and proposes to the Government of Romania the necessary youth and sports policies to be implemented in our country. On behalf of the Romanian Government, it provides domestic and international representation.
At national level, in the field of youth, the Ministry of Youth and Sports relies on 41 Youth and Sports Regional Directions, 35 Youth Centers, 156 Leisure Centers and 15 Cultural Students’ Houses.
In the field of sport, the units which operate under the Ministry of Youth and Sports are: 48 Sports clubs; 9 sports complexes; the National Center for Coach Training and Development; the Sport Museum and the National Research Institute for Sports.

According to the Regulation of Organization and Functioning of the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the strategic objectives of the M.T.S. are:
elaboration of policies and measures regarding attracting European Funds;
Strengthening the economic-financial discipline;
elaboration of personnel policies;
elaboration of policies regarding decentralization;

In order to achieve the strategic objectives in the fields of sport and youth, the Ministry of Youth and Sport has the following general attributions:
ensures the elaboration of the strategy for implementing the Governance Program in the fields of youth and sport; bases and proposes to the Government policies in the fields of youth and sport;
initiates, elaborates or, as the case may be. approves draft normative acts. in order to achieve the strategic objectives and policies in the fields of youth and sport;
ensures the administration of the public and / or private property assets of the state entrusted, according to the legal provisions for carrying out the activity related to the youth and sports fields directly and through the subordinate units;
ensures on behalf of the Romanian state, in accordance with the law, national and international representation in the fields of youth and sport;
ensures the monitoring of the application and control of compliance with laws and other normative acts in the fields of youth and sport;
collaborates with the other ministries and specialized bodies of the central public administration, with the authorities of the local public administration, with other public institutions and legal persons of public or private law, Romanian or foreign:
ensures the application of international agreements in its fields of activity, as well as the promotion of new agreements.
