“Health and development (H.A.D).

a) Establishment
‘Health And Development Organization (H.A.D) is a Ugandan non-government/not for profit organization located in Wakiso district, Katabi-town council, mpala village. H.A.D was found in 2013 and registered in 2017 as a community based non-governmental organization under the N.G.O Board with the mandate of imparting knowledge, skills and awareness to the youth. H.A.D puts its emphasis on employment generation, empowering the youth with social economic skills, preventing AIDS,T.B,HEPATITIS B and other health hazards, drug De-addiction, awareness about environment and hygiene.

b) Governance
The organization has a General Assembly consisting of founding members and other members who have joined the association after its establishment to oversee and deal with all policy issues. It also has a managing board of eleven members to decide on major administrative matters and oversee major developments and guide its operations. There is a Management committee consisting department heads and chaired by General Secretary to deal and execute day-to-day administrative and managerial matters.

The General Secretary, responsible to the Board of directors, is entrusted with the main task of overseeing and implementing decisions passed by the General Body and Board of Directors. He also manages the day-to-day activities and operations of the organization.

The organization has four major departments, namely,
administration, Finance, Program and Public Relations departments, and each department has three to five sections..

c) Vision, Mission and Objective of the Organization
Vision
To see a health, gender balanced, prosperous and productive society that lives in a conducive environment.

Mission
The organization envisions to ensure and provide skills, knowledge and create jobs to the youth so that they can turn into productive and useful citizens of the nation.

General Objective
To identify, tap and optimally harness the potential of the youth in such a way as to strike a judicious balance between their own quality of life as well as towards their meaningful contribution to the society/nation.

Activities of the Organization

ORGANIZING SHGs:
‘H.A.D’ undertakes special efforts to motivate people particularly from socioeconomically weaker sections and those living in slums areas of Wakiso district, for self-employment. The information regarding major role of youth in economic empowerment of community is disseminated to the people, which make formation of SHGs possible in highly marginalized areas.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING:
Health And Development Organization (H.A.D) provides vocational training (Audio and Video production, playing Music Instruments, singing, acting and computer literacy tailoring, catering, and modern brick laying, soap and candle making ,hair dressing) to the youth of Wakiso district .the Organization has trained more than 956 youth in vocational training and remedial classes wherein, most of the beneficiaries are successfully placed in satisfactory jobs.

DRUG AWARENESS CAMP:
“H.A.D’ organizes camps in slum areas for disseminating awareness about harmful effects of Drugs, spreading knowledge about methods for DE-addiction. Until now, more than 42 individuals in katabi town have benefited from the DE-addiction drive launched by. The drug awareness camps are one of the basic components of our role in community development.

Health check-up camps:
We in partnership with The Aids Support Organization. T.A.S.O Uganda, Mildmay, Mulago hospitals is regularly organizing health check-up camps in the slums of wakiso and provides prescribed medicines for free of cost.
