Rethinking Learning: How learning happens

Training Course

17-20 August 2026 | Oldenburg, Germany

Rethinking Learning is a 4-day Erasmus+ training course for everyone who want to explore how learning happens through experience, reflection and facilitation, and how meaningful learning processes can be supported in youth work and education.

A 4 day training course for youth workers, teachers, trainers and facilitators who want to explore how learning happens and how meaningful learning processes can be supported in youth work and education.

Rethinking learning: How learning happens is an Erasmus+ training course focused on understanding learning processes in formal, nonformal and informal education. The training is designed for participants working with young people who want to reflect more deeply on the role of experience, reflection and facilitation in learning environments.

Learning is often associated mainly with formal education, evaluation and external expectations. This training course invites participants to explore learning from a broader perspective and to reflect on how meaningful learning processes can be supported through experience, reflection, participation and facilitation.

The programme will explore topics such as:

  • learning in formal, nonformal and informal contexts,
  • the role of experience and reflection in learning,
  • personal motivations, barriers, biases and experiences connected to learning,
  • and the influence of facilitators, teachers and youth workers on learning environments.

The training course will use nonformal education methods, experiential activities, discussions, reflection exercises and group processes to support participants in exploring learning from both personal and professional perspectives.

Objectives of the training course:

  • To explore how learning happens in formal, nonformal and informal contexts.
  • To increase participants’ awareness of how personal experiences, motivations, barriers and biases influence learning processes.
  • To reflect on the significance of experience, reflection and facilitation in meaningful learning processes.

The activity is intended for youth workers, teachers, trainers, facilitators and other professionals interested in learning processes, nonformal education and reflective educational practice.
