Learning on the move

Training Course

5-13 May 2018 | Training centre "Daugirdiskes" | http://www.daugirdiskes.lt, Lithuania

Nature is a powerful source of learning. GPS technology offers many opportunities to engage young people into outdoor adventure activities. During this course you'll learn to design outdoor education activities using GPS-based technology and mobile apps.
This international training course is about making the most of learning in nature, rural environments and small towns by making use of GPS-based technology and mobile applications. > General aim: This training will offer 30 youth workers to gain practical experience, knowledge and understanding of how to design a non-formal learning programmes that are fun, educational and engaging for young people and youth workers (!). > Themes addressed: Rural-urban migration, creative use of rural environments, GPS-based technology, outdoor education. > Countries involved: The participants are expected to come from Estonia, Italy, Germany, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Slovenia. > Participants profile: Apply, should you are one of the countries above and you: - you volunteer or work with young people who live in rural environments or small towns; - you want to learn how to combine outdoor education activities and use of GPS-based technology - you are ready to invest time into your personal and professional development - you want to bring innovation back home to your young people, youth organisation and community - you can communicate in English - you are at least 18 years old. >Duration: 5-13 May 2018 You may think, "this is a rather long course...", well, experiential and practical learning requires time and commitment. How else can we develop competencies (knowledge + skills + attitudes/values)? > Methods and approaches: The course is based on the approach and methods of “Expeditions” where experiential learning and outdoor education is blended with the GPS-based location technologies. The idea of expedition implies "a journey undertaken by a group of people with particular purpose, especially that of exploration, research, or development". This concept inspires to create learning programmes and methods that embed challenges into a journey to reach educational goals. During this course, participants will learn in a practical way to design and implement experiential learning activities and educational programmes which later can be transferred to the daily practices with groups of young people from inclusion groups. Curious? Read more about how similar training on expeditions happened before: http://www.nectarus.lt/en/english-expeditions-learning-on-the-move/ > Objectives: 1. To develop capacities of youth workers and partner organisations to design learning programmes based on the concept and methodology of rural expeditions; 2. To create opportunities for participants and partner organisations to test various approaches, methods and technological tools by designing “Expeditions” address issues of rural youth 3. To put into practice the use of methods to assess and reflect non-formal and informal learning using European recognition tools (Youthpass and Open Badges). 4. To collect innovative youth work methods which can be applied with inclusion youth groups, especially focusing on the issues of learning mobility, non-formal education and quality youth work. 5. To create a learning group environment for peer-coaching and coaching from the trainers to support participants in applying their learning to practice during the follow-up phase.
