Equal Means Equal. Training course on gender sensitive approaches in peacebuilding

Training Course

18-25 August 2020 | Thonon-les-Bains, France

We propose to empower youth to address gender equality issues such as sexist hate speech and other forms of violence and discrimination on women, by analyzing local realities, exchanging practices and developing activities to promote inclusive societies.

Equal Means Equal project was designed by the group of international youth workers and activists — members of Youth Peace Ambassadors Network (YPAN) — working in the peacebuilding field. Everybody is gendered; we all live to a large extent through an identity as ‘man’ or ‘woman’, reflecting on the roles we play socially that involve expectations of masculinity and femininity, and living a sexuality that shapes our relations to others while being judged according to prevailing ideas in our societies. Also, we are all influenced by gender. Equality between women and men is a fundamental right and one of the European Union’s core values. Equality between women, men and other genders is a fundamental right and one of the European Union’s core values. And we want to give the floor to you, so you can express, learn, interact and build a new possible system. Ready to stand up?

WITH AN AIM… COMES THE OBJECTIVES

The objectives are:

  • to explore and analyse existing gender equality issues in Europe and build a clear picture on the situation of gender stereotyping and sexism among youth and its consequences for the European societies;
  • to develop at least 5 joined projects in the field of promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women among young people;
  • to increase the competences of youth workers in the field of addressing gender imbalances in society;
  • to co-design with the youth workers new tools to mobilise young people around to work for gender equality and violence prevention
  • to develop the guidelines for youth organisations in the fields of gender mainstreaming and gender sensitive approaches in peace education (or projects)

Show your best skills to others, offer an ear to hear and questions to ask

Be in the middle of the nature, practising morning mindfulness or yoga

Find what “outside the box” really means

Believe that youth is part of the change...

THEN YOU ARE PERFECT FOR THIS PROJECT!

BESIDES, IF YOU PREFER TO…

Stick to your ideas, values or ways of living without questioning even a single rule

Talk for talking. Not giving the opportunity to others or bring machist comments

Show your power and super-ego towards the others

Go all time party and drinking

Not listen others thoughts or ideas (looking to the phone all the time)

Be inside the comfort zone...

Then we recommend you to read “Just Kids” (Patti Smith) in your closest library :)
