Articles on Youth Participation and Covid-19 pandemic

SALTO Participation and Information Resource Centre (SALTO PI) is looking for

approx. 5 youth researchers, freelance journalists or professional content creators

Description

We ask interested people and organisations to present us a scope and short description of an article concept presenting briefly what examples or data would be used, etc.

The selected authors will have their articles published in the Participation Resource Pool and on SALTO PI and related youth work channels (such as social media, newsletters, youth work magazines).

SALTO PI defines a more general and over-arching scope and it is the task of the service provider, based on reliable information and personal expertise, to suggest the angle and approach that would be useful, engaging and thought-provoking.

The general scope:

  • How does or has the pandemic impacted youth participation in Europe?
  • What have been the challenges on European level? What could be the future challenges?
  • What kind of initiatives or approaches have been emerging to cope with this topic?
  • What have been and could be the threats and trends (also on policy level, long term, etc) that hinder (or foster new ways?) of youth participation?
  • What could be 1-2 practical examples / case studies that illustrate the reality/trends/problems/solutions

Other:

  • Suitable for target audience (easy to read, well written and composed). In this case, we do not search for scientific type of contributions but are seeking for magazine/newspaper format stories.
  • Based in quality information (facts, other surveys, balanced) 

Target group:
The articles will be created keeping in mind following target audiences:

  • Youth workers 
  • Youth organisations, youth activists (staff and volunteers)
  • Less directly – decision makers

Requested trainer profile

Expectations to the authors:

  • Very good written expression skills in English
  • Experience in creating articles for blogs, newspapers, magazines, etc
  • Excellent understanding of youth participation
  • Excellent skills of synthesising, analysing of research
  • Great skills in storytelling, being able to share expertise in the popular-science format 

For the selection we will take under consideration following criteria:

  • Former experience and expertise regarding the topic
  • Former experience in written content creation and examples of articles 
  • Unique and relevant topic / story idea
  • Structure and proposed background information (such as reliable sources, surveys, studies, facts or case studies to help best illustrate the article)

Working conditions

  • For one article, 3 working days have been foreseen. SALTO PI pays a daily rate of 320 EUR per working day (excluding VAT).
  • Deadline for ideas (outline structure, focus of the article): Monday, 13th July, 23:59 CEST
  • Work deadline: The final deadline of presenting the article to SALTO PI will be agreed upon mutually, preferably in September 2020 and latest by November 2020
  • SALTO PI will organise proofreading
  • Length of the article: Approx. 6000 characters with spaces
  • Provide 1-2 photos illustrating the article and matching the story (either find a suitable stock photo from free images platforms or provide a photo/photos which have clear permission that they can be used for non-profit and for this specific cause)

Team composition

The activity can be done individually or as an organisation.

Please present your topic proposal and short description of proposed structure and cases to SALTO PI by e-mail: participation@salto-youth.net. Please also present your CV and some examples of written articles in English to show-case your writing style and experience.

SALTO PI will coordinate the evaluation of proposed topics and ideas and choose authors for 5-10 articles to work with. We will inform the selected candidates as soon as possible.
