Trainings for volunteers

Training and Evaluation Cycle for Volunteers within Erasmus+ Volunteering Activities projects and/or EVS projects in the Western Balkans

According to the Erasmus+ Programme Guide, all volunteers within E+ Volunteering Activities projects and/or EVS projects have the right and responsibility to attend trainings in order to receive information, support and tools that will help them achieve as much as possible in the time of their service.

In programme countries, the training and evaluation cycle is implemented by national agencies, whereas in programme's neighbouring partner regions this service is implemented by regional SALTOs. In the region of Western Balkans, comprising of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia, the training and evaluation cycle is implemented by SALTO SEE Resource Centre.

The Training and Evaluation Cycle offered by SALTO SEE to volunteers consists of three trainings:

  • On-arrival training (only for volunteering activities lasting 60 days or more, travel days excluded*) and
  • Mid-term evaluation meeting (only for volunteering activities lasting 6 months or more - more precisely, 180 days or more, travel days excluded).
  • Annual EVS/E+ volunteering Event (only for volunteers who have completed their service and returned back home, in the Western Balkans)

In the Western Balkans, these trainings are organised at regional level, bringing together volunteers from the whole region on one such training. This arrangement gives them opportunity to meet other volunteers doing their service in the region and to get to know different realities within the region itself.

  • Pre-departure training

In order for the Erasmus+ Volunteering Activities projects to be successful and experiences to be positive and enriching for the volunteers, it is crucial that Sending or Coordinating Organisations adequately prepare volunteers prior to their departure. The European Commission, in cooperation with National Agencies and SALTOs has prepared an Info-kit with useful pre-departure information for volunteers. It is the responsibility of the coordinating/sending organisation of an Erasmus+ Volunteering Activities project to make the Info Kit available to the volunteer(s). The info kit includes:

With relevant adjustments SALTO SEE is implementing Erasmus+ Volunteering Training and Evaluation Cycle based on the document “E+ volunteering training and evaluation cycle guidelines and minimum quality standards “.

*For projects having 59 activity days or less, participating organisations have the responsibility to organise trainings that are adapted to the needs of the volunteers and/or to the type of volunteering activity. In this case, On-arrival training must be provided by the hosting organization.
