New Key Competences for Erasmus+ Youthpass Certificates - August 2019 Newsletter

New Key Competences for Erasmus+ Youthpass Certificates

In this newsletter you will find:

  • News about the new key competences in Erasmus+ Youthpass certificates
  • An invitation to apply for the Training Course “Learning to Fly! Training Course on Facilitation of Learning in Youth Work”

Erasmus+: Youth in Action projects entered into Youthpass database on and after August 20, 2019 will use the revised key competence definitions.

When describing the learning outcomes in Youthpass, participants are invited to use the key competences for lifelong learning. In 2006 the European Union defined a framework of key competences that all types of education, including non-formal and informal learning, could refer to. In 2018 the definitions have been revised, and so will their implementation in Youthpass.

For the time-being the previous key competence definitions are still in use in Erasmus+: Youth in Action Youthpasses. On August 20, 2019, at 6:00 CET in the morning, Youthpass will switch to using the new competence definitions. This means that all Erasmus+: Youth in Action projects entered into the Youthpass database after that moment will use the new key competence definitions.

This change will not affect the Erasmus+ projects entered into the database before this date, even if the certificates are created after August 20. The change will also not affect the European Solidarity Corps certificates as the revised competence definitions are already in use for all certificates since the launch of Youthpass in this programme.

The revised key competences for lifelong learning are:

  • Multilingual competence
  • Personal, social and learning to learn competence
  • Citizenship competence
  • Entrepreneurship competence
  • Cultural awareness and expression competence
  • Digital competence
  • Mathematical competence and competence in science, technology and engineering
  • Literacy competence

For more Information:

Here you can find two leaflets: one with a short comparison of the revised competences to the previous definitions and a second one with the descriptions of the key competences, their possible application in youth work and some guiding questions for each competence area.
