Partnership-building Activity

12-17 October 2010 | Lieusaint (Parisian Region), France

A European contact making seminar for youth workers and organisations working with & for young offenders, ex-offenders, young people at risk of offending, or young people under protection or educative measures decided by a judge.
This CMS is an initiative of the French National Agency of Youth in action programme in partnership with : - ADSEA 77, local French NGO working with this target group, member of a national network of NGOs for “Defence and safeguard of children and teenagers” - the SAN (Syndicat d’agglomération nouvelle) of Sénart (a group of 8 local authorities sharing competences and ressources). This initiative is a part of the Training and cooperation plan (TCP) of the French National Agency of the Youth in Action European Programme. Why this initiative? As indicated in the introduction of the booklet “No offence” published by the SALTO Inclusion Resource Centre, this target group is not well represented in international projects, and more specifically within the Youth in action programme. However, a significant number of international projects involving young people from this target group, or youth workers or social workers taking care of these young people, have been identified as being successful. Those projects have had a strong educational impact on these young people, and helped them to find their place in society. The origin of this initiative is a successful European Youth Exchange organised in July 2009 in France by the specialised NGO ADSEA 77, co-financed by the French National Agency of Youth in Action in the frame of Action 1.1, and also supported by the local authority SAN of Sénart. Networking and building partnerships One of the key points of international work regarding young people with fewer opportunities is to meet potential partners, to build networks with them in order to create strong partnerships and to implement concrete projects having a measurable impact and outcomes in terms of non formal education and learning. For this reason, the French National Agency, ADSEA 77 and the SAN of Sénart decided to propose this Contact Making Seminar. This event will gather 40 youth workers, social workers, and young people, to share their experiences and practices, to network and build partnerships, and to plan the implementation of European projects, within Youth in action programme or other programmes. The group of 40 participants should ideally be composed by 10 young people accompanied by 10 adults support, and 20 youth workers, youth leaders, social workers, from all countries participating in the YiA Programme (so called “Programme Countries”). The profile of all participants (young people and youth/social workers as well) will be: - to have participated in at least one youth activity involving young people of the target group, with an international or European dimension, with or without mobility, within the Youth in action programme or not, in order to be able to share this experience and practice, and to - to be interested and committed in networking and building partnerships in order to implement European projects The team of the seminar The seminar will be moderated by a team of 5 persons : - Evelyne Goudard, Action 1.1 officer of the French National Agency - Thierry Fresnay, court social worker of the ADSEA 77 - Gilles Baccala, TCP officer of the French National Agency - Clair Brown, trainer, director of the UK NGO “Everything is possible”, and co-author of the booklet “No offence”. - another trainer to be decided. The team will use active and participative methods of non formal education and learning, including: plenary sessions, work in small groups, inputs by experts, field visits of relevant initiatives and projects in the local community, sessions for designing working plans… Venue Working rooms and lunch will be in the “Hotel de la Communauté” of SAN of Sénart, in Lieusaint (Seine et Marne). http://www.senart.com/outils/welcome-to-senart/ Accommodation and dinner will be at “Hotel Le Flamboyant” in Lieusaint. http://www.espace-flamboyant-hotel.com/default_uk.aspx
