Details The findings and results developed during the conference will be published and used for the preparation of a hearing on EDC/HRE in the European Parliament in 2009. The conference will serve to provide input and networking opportunities on three different levels:
• Presentations and workshops on intercultural didactics: Education for Democratic Citizenship (EDC) and Human Rights Education (HRE) in a globalised world
• Interactive trainings on: anti-discrimination; viable argumentation against prejudices and xenophobia; gender-based discrimination; defining and assessing intercultural competences; Web 2.0 tools for intercultural learning and EDC/HRE, etc.
• Discussion groups with practitioners, researchers, and policy makers ranging from the local to the European level:
1) Developing a coherent policy framework for EDC/HRE in adult learning,
2) Interculturalisation: Practices, concepts and strategies for the integration of migrants and other minority representatives in the work of EDC/HRE NGOs

The programme will begin on Friday, 14 November 2008 after lunch and finish on Sunday, 16 November 2008 at around noon in the Hilton Danube Hotel in Vienna.
Costs No participation fee for those selected. Travel costs will be reimbursed up to the limit of 300 €. Board and lodging costs are covered for the duration of the conference (see financial details in the registration form).
Working language The conference language is English, but one workshop will be held in German and one in French.

Organizer's profile/framework of activity DARE is a Europe-wide network of NGOs and other organisations devoted to raise the profile of Education for Democratic Citizenship (EDC) and Human Rights Education (HRE), promote transcultural and transnational cooperation, and enhance the quality of education within these fields. DARE aims at achieving recognition, visibility and adequate resources for EDC and HRE as a core obligation for the formal and non-formal education systems throughout Europe.

Application to

Participants have to be affiliated (as a staff member or regular volunteer) with an organisation involved in HRE/EDC and/or intercultural learning in the European Union or Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Turkey.
