Intro

Xavier Baró Urbea (M & ) was born in 1978 and is currently living in Spain. The trainer has been involved in several training activities such as 'Hyperlink Project: Intercultural Dialogue 2.0' (Luxembourg) and 'ECTC European Citizenship Training Course' (Flanders).

Here's a little description about the trainer:

Xavier Baró Urbea is free lance trainer and since 1998 member of the Trainers’ Pool of the Council of Europe Youth Directorate (CoE-DGJS) and the European Youth Forum-YFJ (from the 1998 till 2009).
He collaborates in a regular basis on the development of Training activities for International Youth Organisations, National Youth Councils, the European Commission, the Directorate of Youth and Sports of the Council of Europe and the Anna Lindh Foundation for the Dialogue among cultures. He has been involved as trainer and educational advisor in more than 70 educational and training international activities (full list upon request) developed along the last years.
He is currently involved at international level as coordinator of several projects in the Baltic and the Euro-Mediterranean areas.
Xavier Baró Urbea is Educational Advisor of the Catalan National Youth Council (CNJC), the Training Organisation Trajectorya and president of the Association of Human Rights Educators AHEAD.

  1. Training: Hyperlink Project: Intercultural Dialogue 2.0 (July 2009, Luxembourg)

    The Anna Lindh Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures for a period of 3 days.

    Description:

    The Euromed Anna Lindh Foundation for Dialogue between Cultures organized between the 26th and 29th of July 2009 the first phase of the Hyperlink Project, “the ALF Euromed Bloggers Training on Intercultural Dialogue”.
    It was implemented in the frames of the campaign Restore Trust – Rebuild Bridges, launched by the Anna Lindh Foundation and the Alliance of Civilizations to encourage a culture of peace and coexistence in the Euro-Mediterranean Region.
    The residential Euromed Bloggers Training on Intercultural Dialogue aimed at providing 20 Euromed bloggers with a presential training about intercultural dialogue.
     
    The training brought together the most influential bloggers from the Euromed countries who share the values of dialogue and coexistence, and are committed to promote mutual understanding between the countries of the region.
    The chosen 20 bloggers were given the title of Cyber Ambassadors for Dialogue and participated through their blogs in the Restore Trust – Rebuild Bridges campaign, in order to encourage exchanges between people from different communities, promoting a culture of mutual respect, reconciliation, non-violent conflict resolution and peaceful coexistence inside and between the countries of the Euro-Med Region.

    The course was twofold focused on Intercultural Dialogue and Social Media tools, and used a convination on NFE methods.
    I was trainer and member of the ALF Bloggers Network.

  2. Training: ECTC European Citizenship Training Course (March 2009, Flanders)

    Organised by:

    SALTO Training and Cooperation in Partnership with Council of Europe Y for a period of 5 days.

    Description:

    The European Citizenship Training Course aim is to support the professional development of youth workers and youth leaders by extending their critical understanding of European Citizenship, by exploring and experiencing the potential of the notion of European Citizenship, and by enabling them to recognise and integrate European Citizenship in their youth work.

    The training course has five objectives to realise this aim, namely to:

    critically explore the meaning relevance and implications European citizenship in youth work in all its dimensions;
    promote and facilitate the active use of programmes and structures in support of youth work on European Citizenship, including the «Youth in Action» programme;
    experience and explore the potential of European Citizenship for active democratic change in society;
    associate the participants with the current discourse on European Citizenship (its concepts, formal meanings and expressions);
    exemplify the connection between European Citizenship, Human Rights, Democracy and Intercultural Learning and the underlying values.

    The course was run throught using a diversity of methods (cooperative learning, discussions, simulations, study visits...) based on Non Formal Education methodology and puts emphasis on life long learning and specially on learning to learn reflection.
    It brought together a multicultural and international group of 25 youth leaders from the whole broader Europe.
    I am member of the ECTC Pool of Trainers runing these courses.

  3. Training: Getting GLocal (November 2009, Pärnu, Estonia)

    Organised by:

    Global Educators for a period of 7 days.

    Description:

    The training course “Getting GLocal: Zooming Environment” took place from 13th to 21st of November 2009 in Pärnu, Estonia during 7 full working days. The training course brought together young people from different European countries to create common base and new ideas for bringing awareness on global issues to local communities. The specific themes discussed at the training course were consumerism, ethical and environmental-friendly consumption and the interdependencies between our own everyday decisions and its consequences for the human and natural environment.
    The main objectives of the project were:
    1.To raise awareness among participants and local community about the interdependency between our everyday actions in an environmental global context;
    2.To exchange experiences, working methods and good practices among organisations in the field of environment through youth work and non formal education;
    3.To provide space for discussion on a more conscious, ethical and environmental friendly consumption and to develop strategies for change of attitudes and behaviours in the field;
    4.To empower youth leaders and educators working at local level with young people to implement quality value based projects aiming and having a real impact in their local communities.
    The training course brought together 24 participants and trainers from 12 European countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, Slovenia, Italy, Spain, Portugal).
    Both Formal and Non Formal Education methodologies were used during the course in order to better reach the objectives in their implementation process. Theoretical inputs were to bring concrete facts, models and open questions to the course participants and bring in further debates. As to non-formal education methods the experiential learning, street actions, group discussions, individual research, workshops, sharing of experiences, individual and group reflections, practical visibility tasks were used. The preparatory team aimed with the methodology and issues to develop the concept of GLocalizer as active multiplier in a dual local-global context.

In the frame of the Formal Education Xavier Baró is geotechnic Engineer by the Catalan Polytechnic University, and Environment and water management Engineer by the Ecole Polytechnique de Lorraine.
