Intro

Sven Aerts (M & Belgian) was born in 1970 and is currently living in Belgium - FL. The trainer has been involved in several training activities such as 'World Youth Peace Summit - Session Youth Peace and Environment' (Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina) and 'Trainings course: Marine Biology in the Mediterranean' (Paphos Cyprus).

Here's a little description about the trainer:

Thank you for reading my profile.
Key words on me: Environment - Agenda 21 - the Low Carbon Economy/Climate Change and World Peace- Blue Helmets - Peace Bombs.
Indeed, I go for nothing less but the creation of World Peace... and I'm part of an international network and team that knows how to get there, www.wyps.org - World Youth Peace Summit organisation a spin-out from a UN action. Part of the team are in the Salto Youth Trainers Database.
Starting point for all my actions is the bigger framework of Agenda 21 Plan of Action to help Humanity make it beyond the year 2100 and supported and taken upon by the United Nations. www.MyAgenda21.org
I've been working for OLPC, the One Laptop Per Child, an Open Community project that goes for Universal Education and in which the United Nations is a Partner. Universal Primary Education is the UN's Millennium Development Goal nr.2 and will be achieved by 2015.
To find out more: www.olpc.tv
The fact that I'm here, I owe it to the Youth Organisations in which I was active as a youngster: Natuur 2000, JNM.be and Youth Environment Europe. I realize what a priviledge and luck I have had to stumble into the international umbrella organisations of these offering me to travel, expand my horizons, practise my languages, make friends ... I want to give this back because I owe it to the Youngsters that came before me and made this possible. It has made me a better person and I still benefit from it every day in my life. Also in my professional life, all the skills and trainings I've had: brainstorming, wiki-working, out of the box thinking, open-space, ... I owe it to the my youth organisations trainings and the EU. My colleagues see me as still wittier, faster, welll networked. Everything I lived, learned, participating as a youngsters in international youth activities, I want to share, for it changed my life, made me a better person and I want EVERY youngster on this planet to get the opportunity to participate in such inspiring-life changing exerpiences.
For this reason I've become a Youth Trainer, facilitating & teaming up in youth trainings, nature, sailing, horsebackriding, tennis, diving, internet... I'm very action and result oriented and bring a drive to push and pull things forward in a group to the next or three levels higher.. good use of speed-up techniques, open space/brainstorming/brainmapping, use of Virtual Offices and the internet, respect for gender balance and lesser abled be it physically or financially or from the region/social class you're born in, .. think and then put things immediately to work, write-plan-do-capacity building things immediately by using a Virtual Office for example. I love to work in multi-disciplinary and international teams, bring harmony and understanding first and then get to work to get new and great results, put the ideas into action and kick-start projects right away... create an own dynamic, take your own place, make a stand, get people involved, love what you do and enjoy the results and happines of others joining in.
So that's what you'll get when you get me involved.
My quest lies with Youth, the largest sociological group on the Planet. Accellerated learning, the interaction of formal and informal learning to recuperate youth that don't necessarily work well in only formal learning environments. I worked with the UN-Bluehelmets in Sarajevo... have a look at my website for results explained by pictures and won a couple of international prices regarding Youth Work. I keep repeating everywhere: we need to respect Youngsters and involve them because they have everything to offer. Adults prefer working with Kids because it gets their issues to the Media more easily and kids do anything you tell them to do. I specialise in working with Youth, some have an own mind, great unexpected solutions, radical new ways of thinking, some are just impolite and stupid... experimenting... but that's ok too, we can handle that. I also advise adults working with youth, what to expect, the advantages, the do's and don'ts...
In 2002, I won a price by the European Comission in collaboration with the Directorate General for Education and Culture for a series of workshops on "Virtual Offices in Youth Organisations and NGO's", it's about knowledge management, changemanagement and teaming up using the internet, it's both on IT, technology but also a set of Techniques: Open Space Techniques on the Internet.
Where did i get my expertise: from my professional life, I don't know how it happened but I ended up with 4 degrees (engineering, car mechanics, international relations and world peace developement, social and financial advisor) and my own experiences and things I learned in Youth Organisations. I was active in Youth Environment Europe, this was so great, I still profit from it in my professional life and I want to give back and share everything I know, the techniques that were usefull, things we have learned and the experiences we've had when to all youngsters in the world and adults that want to tap into the largest sociological group in the world: YOUTH. I am going for nothing less but World Peace and we need Youth, the Leaders and Adults of Tomorrow to be ready and more effective than ever before. I want to accellerate learning, be a coach rather than a teacher, play with energies, teach how Virtual Offices can support and accellerate and be a stabilizing factor, develope Knowledge Management and Change Management, act as a buddy for Mass events such as the World Youth Peace Summits where youth can still work very intensively, also via the Internet to develope sessions where many can work in subgroups... we need ALL youth in the whole planet to get involved and improve their living conditions as soon as possible, I owe it to them.

Trainer Background

Current Occupation

Kyoto Protocol / Low Carbon Economy Consultant & Leadership Developers / CO2e-Reducing Project Promotor

Work Experience

- Youth Trainer, specialised in Nature & Kyoto Protocol/Climate Change Adaptation and IT for Youth Initiatives
- Consultant on Project Developement in the framework of the Kyoto Protocol on Global Climate Destabilisation
- started www.AfricaCO2.org
- started www.olpco2.org

Educational Pathway

- Was a Member of Youth Environment Europe, now I am a member of its Adult Organisation: the IUCN - World Nature Conservation.
This was important because I know first hand what international youth work, organising international trainingscourses are all about, what are bad ones, what are great ones. YEE collapsed on a certain moment and thanks to an internet based resque action, we managed to recuperate quicker and become a strong youth organisation again for some 110.000 youngsters going out every weekend or month to explore and enjoy nature. All the experiences of this resque effort, were transformed into a series of workshops and tools (Virtual Office) and I won a price for this by the European Comission and the Directorate General for Education and Environment.
- Youth Trainer and Guardian Angel for IT4YI - IT for Youth Initiatives
- www.olpco2e.org unlocking OLPC's Low Carbon Economy potential.
