Name Game/Get to know each other
getting to know each other, giving a feeling for a European dimension within the group
Preparation: thinking up questions according to which the participants should position themselves in the room
Procedure: The participants stand in the middle of a large room. The game leader (if possible with microphone and in very large groups also equipped with camera and screen) explains that the room represents Europe (or the whole world if there are participants from non-European countries) and states where north, south, east and west are.
The game leader now asks the participants to divide themselves throughout the room according to their place of residence. The participants must agree amongst themselves where each country is and if there are several participants from one country then also where each town is.
The game leader can now travel around and ask individual participants which country they are currently in.
This can be repeated with different questions e.g. where were you born? Where do you most like to spend your holidays? Where would you go if you won a 1 week stay anywhere in Europe?.... here as well you can question some participants.
Only a few participants should be interviewed in each round and the questions kept short so that the whole group maintains momentum.
To finish the group could, for example, stand in alphabetical order according to their first names and then say their names one after the other.
