Riga: let us never forget!

German-Latvian youth Encounter in Riga and by Sigulda

For our binational youth encounter we are looking for Latvian participants between 16 and 24 years.

The follow up meeting for the project will take place in 2021 in Bremen, Germany.

Call for participation:

Come to the ancient Hanseatic town of Riga with us and explore this vital metropole, which is listed as a world heritage site!

Together with German teenagers we will search in the country's capital for traces of people who were deported to Riga in 1941/1942. The convoys from Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia ended in the Ghetto or in the surrounding forest and in con-centration camps. The memorial site Rika-Bikernieki with its many war graves testifies to these events. It keeps the sad tie between Riga and the cities where the convoys started alive.

We will help to care for the graves and take a closer look at the characteristic features of German and Latvian culture in workshops. We will also organize a memorial celebration at the Riga-Bikernieki memorial site in honour of the 20th anniversary of the Riga Committee, which has set itself the task of commemorating the Jews of Riga.

There will be plenty of time for fun and adventure, despite the serious theme of our work camp. Riga is set in spectacular countryside and we shall go canoeing and walking and enjoy the beaches on the Baltic Sea.

Camp languages are German and English!
