Power of humanity Foundation

Emberség Erejével Alapítvány EEA (Power of Humanity Foundation) was formed in 2006 as a
youth initiative, to take part in the creation of a democratic and solidary society where human dignity and human rights are respected. The NGO works with oppressed people who needs support to have equal opportunities and also with the ’majority’ who needs awareness raising to become inclusive. EEA has been implementing educational and development projects to reach their goals.

The NGO started to organize after school programs for mostly Roma children with fewer opportunities living in poverty in 2010 in a segregated part of the city of Pécs. These efforts shaped in the form of ‘Élmény Tár’ (Adventure Store Youth Centre) in 2013. For children there is learning support, educational projects, workshops (sports, media, arts and crafts, etc.), free-time programs, camps and different kind of adventures, which their parents cannot buy for them. For the parents and other adults, community building process has been started in 2015, with free-time programs, regular meetings, personal mentoring, identification of community issues and supported advocacy.

EEA started human rights education projects in 2008, with local elementary and secondary schools. In 2015/2016 The handbook ‘egyMÁStan’ borned in 2015/2016, this manual contains 8 pilot educational processes in HRE topics which fit the national curricula, so it can be adapted nationwide in Hungary. In 2016/2017 a team of trainers and volunteers developed ‘DEMO’ which is a board game for education for democratic citizenship. EEA developed an online HRE platform Dignity W@rld which contains online serious games used for learning.

In cooperation with Open Society Institue EEA is running the ‘Erősödő Civil Közösségek’ (Growing Civic Communities) regional grant program in South-West Hungary between 2017 and 2020. In the first round 60 and in the second round 64 local projects were supported.

EEA believes in the power of cooperation, so we are starting members of EJHA the Hungarian Network of Human Rights Educators which is official partner of European Youth Centre Budapest. We are also founding members of Szabad Terek (Open Spaces) which is a coalition of NGOs and community spaces aiming to create active solidarity for each other. We joined Civilizáció (Civilization) the biggest Hungarian NGO network in 2017. The aim is to act against government attacks on civil society.

The NGO also has 10 years of experience in international cooperation, in Youth in Action and Erasmus+ programs.
