Training Course
27-29 March 2013 | Modica, Sicily, Italy
Gender Mainstreaming is defined by the Council of Europe (1998) as ‘the (re)organisation, improvement, development and evaluation of policy processes, so that a gender equality perspective is incorporated in all policies, at all levels and at all stages, by the actors normally involved in policy-making’.
The EQUAL Guide on Gender Mainstreaming (European Communities, 2005) provides that ‘ Gender mainstreaming is a tool to better understand the causes of inequalities between women and men in our societies and come up with appropriate strategies to tackle them. The goal is to achieve equality between women and men.
But the concept has left many confused. It has been criticised for being too abstract and difficult to understand especially for non-English speakers. What does it actually mean? How will I benefit as an organisation or even as an individual? Is this just another administrative requirement that I have to comply with?’
This course aims to enable participants to understand the concept of gender mainstreaming and its implications, and to empower them to master tools and methods which will enable them to implement gender mainstreaming effectively within their own organisations.
Course Objectives :
- To understand the need for gender mainstreaming
- To understand the benefits of gender mainstreaming
- To become acquainted with tools for implementing gender mainstreaming
- To assist participants in mastering the application of such tools
- To assist participants to identify appropriate follow up actions that can be implemented in their own organisations
