A.T.A.C. - Active Theatre for Active Citizenship

Training Course

3-9 September 2013 | Llinars del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain

The main topic of the training course “Activist Theatre for Active Citizenship” is European Citizenship, and the rights that go with it. Working methods will be based on social theatre, clown and street theatre. Activities will be based on NFE approach.
Aims & Objectives: - To analyse the concept of European Citizenship and its situation in Eu countries. - To analyse the rights that European Citizenship grants to young people, and the ways and actions that allow to ensure, defend and promote them. - To promote active citizenship in European young people, and the awareness of the importance of participating actively in decision making processes that affect them directly and indirectly. - To empower European young people through entrepreneurship and sense of initiative. - To explore creative methods in the fight against social exclusion. - To foster a development of Europe through culture and arts. On the other hand we want to emphasize that the practical activities proposed (social theatre, street theatre and clown) contain in themselves social values and meet the following specific objectives: - To develop individual values: the challenge that mean the different theatrical disciplines help us to develop the spirit of perseverance and self confidence, to improve self-esteem, to develop a sense of safety and risk, to discover our capabilities and our limits, to develop creativity. - To promote group values: the performing arts are team disciplines, where you learn that active participation, cooperation and group cohesion are essential to achieve a long-term objective. - To facilitate and develop the integration through education for diversity, solidarity and interculturalism. Contents: - European Citizenship and the rights that go with it. - Active citizenship and active participation of young people. - Creativity as a basis for intercultural work (art as a common language). - Art as a tool for social transformation and social inclusion. - Theatre as tools for youth work. - European youth cooperation. Working methods: Social theatre, clown, street theatre, performative theatre. Main programme elements: Team-building, simulations, theatre workshops, intercultural activities, reflection groups. The primary focus of the TC will be the use of social theatre, street theatre and clown to promote intercultural dialogue and activist performance. The training is based on practical work: activities will include a very good overview and practical experience of these tools through individual work, working groups and collective group and finally we will realise a final performance with the hosting local community, using the techniques we will train during the course, as a result of the work done and as an important learning opportunity for participants. Each participant will end this project with ideas about how to use these tools in their future actions. A purpose for this TC is to proceed with already existing network members to follow-up plans, to exchange good practices and to prepare future quality projects.
