TC Empower for young women from ethnic minorities - Outcomes

The Training Course on the Empowerment of young ethnic minority women led to a number of interesting projects and concrete outcomes. Read more below.






















Empower Booklet

SALTO Inclusion has published an educational booklet based on the TC Empower Training Course, so that more youth workers than only the 25 lucky ones at the course can benefit from all the outcomes and results of the training.

Projects after the course

At the end of the TC , the participants were asked if they had gotten any project ideas at the course.

  • No less than 95% of the participants had concrete project ideas after the course.
  • 73% of these project ideas were Youth in Action projects - 9% were other project ideas - the rest didn't know yet.
  • when asking about project partners, 65% of participants said they found partners at the TC

Here is a short list of the project ideas that came up during the action planning at the end of the course.

  1. Taining for Trainers (PL, Swiss, IS, IT): Empowerment for multipliers who work with Asylum seekers in order to multiply the empowerment methodology
  2. Transnational Youth Initiative ( NL , HU, PL, ES)
    Aims are to create a common youth web magazine, to involve young people in order to develop common interest; learning ICT skills; foster inclusion; empower young people from ethnic minorities, to stimulate their language skills. This should result in a meeting/ youth exchange to compare the results and to increase quality.
  3. Multimeasure Activity (Georgia, PL, ES, IT + Liechtenstein). Long term training cooperation during one year or more in several countries:
    a. Feasibilitie visit: ES, Georgia
    b. job shadowing: ES to Georgia: exchange of methods, create a format of training
    c.study visit: bottom up approach: needs assessments of EM for training
    d. training
    e. international seminar: to exchange experience
    f. evaluation meeting
  4. Training course on Empower young women from ethnic minorities (Palestine, Montenegro, Sweden, Austria, Azerbaijan, Portugal)
    Aims
    - increasing self esteem
    - enhance critical and creative thinking
    - increasing mobility
    - sharing experience
    Follow Up A part one of more activities: develop local projects in each country
  5. Youth exchange on empowerment of young Roma (BG; PT ; Albania and Macedonia)
    Aims
    - Different cultures and different religions,
    - increasing self esteem
    - intercultural Learning
    - faith exchange
    - communication improvement
    - empowering of Roma in general
    - to make first a local group initiative and to conclude with a group exchange
  6. Youth Exchange on the topic of creating opportunities to open the labour market by empowering young women (Sweden, Lichtenstein)
  7. Youth Initiative on how to deal with conflict issues in daily life (UK)
    - creating a space for sexual prevention and religious dialogue
    - to bring information about sexual diseases
    - to create space for drug prevention and to show potential consequences
  8. Youth Initiative on dealing with daily life (DK) by developing a booklet (A six month project on empowerment of ethnic minority girls)
    Aims
    - to create a space for personal expression about personal situation
    - dealing with daily reality
  9. Group exchange on sharing cultural experiences by using activities as Self defence; creative activities poems, make t-shirts, thematic discussions; (SE, PT, UK)

Other ideas for local youth initiatives:

1) Austria
ART - project ( dancing, painting, music, singing,...) with young women from The Turkish community in Graz
Empowerment, body balance, positive experience to achieve something. Discovering personal skills.

2) Italy:
To bridge the gap between immigrant and local people
AIM: to facilitate encounter and mutual understanding between Muslims and non Muslims
Objectives:
- integration, enrichment
- increasing mutual knowledge and information, understanding
- to foster intergroup cooperation
- to provide environment for networking and future collaboration
- to develop and discover common tools
- to erase stereotypes and prejudices

3) Portugal:
To raise awareness of lack of rights
Aim: to be able to make choices in life, after receiving different kinds of information
objectives:
- to know the rights
- to be responsible
- do stimulate to create a final project chosen by youngsters themselves

4) Spain:
Mentor/tutorship for single (migrant) women
involving language training and intercultural mediation on institutions, social sources, meetings in the local community

5) Portugal:
Empower young women from E.M. to have new skills , necessary to reach a higher life quality.
Objectives:
- to get a better job
- to speak and write Portuguese
- digital competences
- self esteem raising.
