Aims & Objectives
"There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women." - Kofi Annan
The SALTO "EMpower young women from ethnic minorities" Training Course aims to increase the use of the European Youth in Action programme in the work with young women with an Ethnic-Minority background (refugees, diverse minority groups, immigrants, etc.) as a tool for emancipation and empowerment.
In order to reach this aim, SALTO Inclusion & Cultural Diversity put forward the following objectives:
- Bringing together (male and female) youth workers, social workers, peer educators & organisations working with young women with an ethnic-cultural background and to exchange working practices with the target group and the issues in question
- Exploring the possibilities and benefits of the European Youth in Action programme (group exchanges, voluntary service, group initiatives, support and training) as a tool for working with this target group
- on the issues of their interest
- in the frame of their emancipation and empowerment
- in the frame of the development of leadership skills
- in the frame of development of single sex ('girls only') projects and mixed sex (young women from ethnic minorities and men) as a stepping stone into their emancipation process
- Developing project management skills in setting up international (Youth in Action Programme) projects with young ethnic-cultural women
- Working on concrete follow-up projects - within or without the Youth in Action programme - with partners from the course or others - and multiplying the skills and knowledge gained at the course (e.g. set up projects, cooperation with the NA, spread information, etc)
- Documenting the outcomes of the course in the format of a toolbox/ practical booklet for use by other youth workers working with young women from ethnic minorities

Methology
Since learning by doing is one of the most efficient ways of learning, the course concept will be conceived in a way that allows active participation and exchange between participants. It is built on participants' own experience, from real life or simulations, and work on concrete projects for the future. The training course will also draw upon the experience from external practitioners and lecturers on topics related to rural youth issues and/or the Youth in Action programme. The methods used are non-formal learning-based methods.
