EVS training sessions for volunteers

Training and Evaluation Cycle for EVS Volunteers in South East Europe

According to the Youth in Action Programme Guide, all volunteers have the right and responsibility to attend EVS training sessions in order to receive information about the European Voluntary Service, support during their service and tools that will help them achieve as much as possible in the time of their service.

The Training and Evaluation Cycle for EVS volunteers consists of two sessions:

  • On-arrival training and
  • Mid-term evaluation meeting.

On-arrival training sessions are organised for all EVS volunteers, Mid-term meetings for those in projects with a service period of 6 months or longer.

In Programme countries, the Training and Evaluation Cycle is implemented by National Agencies. In the Programme's neighbouring partner countries in South East Europe and Eastern Europe and Caucasus, the training and evaluation cycle is implemented by the SALTO SEE (for South East Europe) and SALTO EECA (for Eastern Europe and Caucasus) Resource Centres.

In South East Europe, these training sessions are usually organised at regional level, bringing together EVS volunteers based in the whole region for one session. This arrangement gives EVS volunteers the opportunity to meet other volunteers in the region and to get to know different realities within the region itself.

Additional trainings and support provided for EVS volunteers

In order for the EVS projects to be successful and experiences to be positive and enriching for EVS volunteers, it is crucial  that Sending or Coordinating Organisations adequately prepare volunteers prior to their departure.

The European Commission, in cooperation with National Agencies and SALTO has prepared an EVS volunteer Info-kit with useful pre-departure information for volunteers. The Kit has four compulsory parts:

Welcome letter

What to expect from EVS

Youthpass in EVS

The European Voluntary Service Insurance Plan Volunteer's Guide

In addition, EVS volunteers who have completed their service are also invited to Annual EVS Events. These Events organised by National Agencies and SALTO may serve as evaluation meetings, alumni meetings and promotional events.
