EVS training sessions for volunteers

Training and Evaluation Cycle for EVS volunteers in South East Europe

According to the Youth in Action Programme Guide, all volunteers have the right and responsibility to attend EVS training sessions in order to receiveinformation about the European Voluntary Service, support during their service and tools that will help them achieve as much as possible in the time of their service.

In Programme countries, the Training and Evaluation Cycle is implemented by National Agencies. In the Programme's neighbouring partner countries in South East Europe and Eastern Europe and Caucasus, the training and evaluation cycle is implemented by the SALTO SEE (for South East Europe) and SALTO EECA (for Eastern Europe and Caucasus) Resource Centres.

In South East Europe, training sessions are usually organised at regional level, bringing together EVS volunteers based in the whole region for one session. This arrangement gives them the opportunity to meet other volunteers in the region and to get to know different realities within the region itself.

For projects granted in 2010 (or before) the training cycle consists of four training or evaluation meetings and every volunteer needs to attend all of them. Pre-departure training sessions and Final Evaluation Meetings are held in the volunteer's country or region of origin and On-arrival training sessions and Mid-term Evaluation Meetings in their host country or region.

A slimmer training and evaluation cycle has been introduced for EVS projects granted as of 2011. On-arrival training sessions are organised for all volunteers, mid-term meetings for those in projects with a service period of 6 months or longer.

Sending or Coordinating organisations are expected to well prepare volunteers prior to their departure. The Commission, in cooperation with National Agencies and SALTOs prepared an Info-kit with useful pre-departure information for volunteers. The Kit has four compulsory parts:

Welcome letter

What to expect from EVS

Youthpass in EVS

The European Voluntary Service Insurance Plan Volunteer's Guide

In addition, volunteers who have finished their service will be invited to annual national EVS events, which will serve as evaluation meetings and promotion events.
