SALTO-YOUTH Title

Cultural Diversity in Youth Project Activities

'Value the Difference' is a four day training module open to youth leaders, youth workers, and National Agency staff to explore the field of Cultural Diversity in youth projects.

This training module is designed to increase youth workers' and youth leaders' intercultural skills and competences for their youth projects. Each module has a different topic such as immigration processes, mediation, or religious diversity.

Objectives

  • Reflect critically on personal and cultural identity
  • Gain a greater understanding of Cultural Diversity in different local and national realities and better understand concepts which relate to the topic, such as stereotyping, prejudice, manipulation, and limits of culture
  • Learn from cross community youth work and raise awareness that can lead to a more integrated society and learn ways to foster a more tolerant society in general
  • Develop intercultural skills and competences related to international youth projects, reflecting on learning how to use Youthpass
  • Be inspired to carry out future international youth projects through the Youth in Action programme and other resource possibilities

Programme

  • Day 1: Group building, reflection on identity and self
  • Day 2: Dealing with the topic of Cultural Diversity (norms & values, limits, discrimination, prejudice, inclusion/exclusion, ...)
  • Day 3: Historical perspectives of diversity experiencing local reality
  • Day 4: Planning action for change

Youthpass accreditation will be a transversal element throughout the programme.

The training is implemented within the frame of non-formal education and the methods used are participative, active, non-academic, and strongly based on participants' previous experiences. It also involves visits to the local reality.

Application

The participation is entirely covered by the Youth in Action programme.
