SALTO Inclusion work 2008

The SALTO Inclusion continues to offer training in 2008, both for youth workers and NAs. The educational booklets are very popular, so they are continued, as well as support for NAs and organisations in the field of inclusion.

Inclusion of ALL

SALTO Inclusion bases its workplan 2008 on the needs and suggestions of different stakeholders: inclusion workers, National Agencies, the European Commission, SALTO and YOU ! We collected feedback at different meetings and via the web. Here are the main elements of our workplan for 2008 (pending approval).

Capacity Building & Training

The SALTO Inclusion courses are highly appreciated, and many compete for few places. These training courses will see the light in 2008:

  • "TC E.M.power" on how to use the European Youth in Action programme as a tool in a pathway to emancipate & empower Ethnic Minority young women, developing leadership skills and competences (May 2008, in UK - in cooperation with NA UK, NA Denmark and SALTO Cultural Diversity)
  • "TC Image Building & Inclusion" - how to work on positive image building for disadvantaged groups (October 2008, in cooperation with the Hungarian NA)
  • SALTO Inclusion commits itself to the Inclusion Quality Charter for the organisation of its Training Courses

For the Inclusion officers of the National Agencies we have planned a follow up of the 2007 Inclusion Staff Training but in a different format:

  • "Intervision for NA Inclusion Officers" - small working meetings of Inclusion Officers of National Agencies discussing inclusion issues, sharing ideas and experiences

SALTO Inclusion will also support NAs, SALTOs & NGOs in developing Inclusion activities (mostly with expertise and staff resources) e.g.

  • "Doors Wide Open" (Flemish Belgian NA) outdoor methods for Youth in Care (Belgium, March 2008)
  • YAP training course on EVS with young people with fewer opportunities (Hungary, May 2008)
  • SALTO SEE & NA Germany seminar on Inclusion & EVS in SEE
  • Youthpass -approaches for inclusion groups with SALTO Training & Cooperation
  • ...

Tools & Publications

As is common practice, all useful training methods from the SALTO Inclusion training courses & seminars will be documented online in the Toolbox for Training & Youth Work www.salto-youth.net/toolbox/.

We continue to develop educational publications (Inclusion for ALL booklets) based on our training courses. So that more people can benefit from then than only the participants at the course.

  • Urban Youth Booklet - based on the Urban Youth Seminar (Dec 2007) - about setting up projects with and for young people from disadvantaged (sub)urban areas
  • E.M.power booklet - based on the TC E.M.power - how to use the European Youth in Action programme as a tool in a pathway to emancipate & empower Ethnic Minority young women
  • ImageBuilding for Inclusion - based on the TC ImageBuilding -how to work on an positive image for specific Inclusion Groups
  • Shaping Inclusion for NGOs - an adaptation of the Shaping Inclusion guide for NAs, so that Youth NGOs can also find guidance in working strategically on inclusion.
  • We are also developping a Good Practice folder on Inclusion, with inspiration from different projects - if you know any great inclusion projects, approaches or concepts (contact Ann Hendriks inclusion@salto-youth.net)
  • Last but not least, we will be reprinting some of the Inclusion for ALL booklets that are out of stock

Translations of SALTO Inclusion Booklets

SALTO Inclusion promotes the translation of its Inclusion for All booklets into different languages - and also the Making Waves booklet.

SALTO Inclusion Website & Newsletter

SALTO Inclusion works for the whole of Europe - that's why it works a lot with the internet and email-newsletters, to reach as many inclusion workers as possible with limited resources.

  • If you have inclusion information to send - let us know via tony@salto-youth.net

Other Support activities & meetings?

  • Any other suggestions on how SALTO Inclusion could support Inclusion as a priority in the frame of the Youth in Action programme?
  • Any more general tasks that you see SALTO take care of? What else should SALTO be doing to support international youth work?

To spread the web site and the opportunities SALTO Europe can offer I think it will be great to create a group on facebook or inside different youth virtual communities.
This is the easiest way to reach as much as possible young people.
In this way you can give a kind of universal message and people will be interested in join a youth organization in order to partecipate to international exchanges, becoming actives in a second phase...just like me!!!!
