UNITED for Intercultural ActionPan-European network of diverse NGOs active against racism, nationalism, fascism and in support to migrants and refugees.UNITED was founded in 1992 as an open network with a mission focussing on the importance of the role of civil society in the defense and promotion of democracy, human rights and European diversity. It functions as a space for encounter, co-ordinated through its secretariat in Amsterdam (NL), providing:
UNITED coordinates annual campaigns under the principle of 'think globally act locally'. Tools, support and campaign material is available and can be used in your NGOs. Campaigns: "European Action Week against Racism, March ", "International Refugee Day, June" and "International Day Agains Fascism and Antisemitism, 9 November". Posters and campaign materials are sent out to approx 2500 organisations across Europe.
a database of 4000 contacts of NGOs, YNCOs, institutions and research institutes active in one or more of the fields of interest to the network. Regularly updated, in can be used as a tool for inter-intra- and extra- networking.You can put your own organisation on this Address Book, search for others on the online database, and also receive the CD ROM with contacts so you can take it away with you.
To spread news about events and good practices, five regular editions of the Calendar are printed each year. Available online, an archive is also available to search on previous activities and give you inspiration. There are approximately 3500 activities on the database.
Looking at things like 'The Danger of Words' or 'Outreach Work', these leaflets have been developed responding to the needs of the network. You can download and print them from their website. Several of the leaflets have been translated into other languages (Russian, German, Czech, French, Romanian...). They are free of copyright, but to be used for educational purposes only and quoting the source.
Each year UNITED organises conferences on topics related to anti-racism work. The need to gather the delegates from the network to discuss common themes, getting to know new organisations and creating possible future collaborations and projects.
