Towards a common European level Training of Trainers strategy
Train trainers to ensure high quality European level youth worker trainings is an important quality aspect of Youth in Action. Read more here...
In July 2006, the SALTO Training and Co-operation RC organised a Stakeholder Conference on Quality in European youth work with the focus on the new Youth in Action Programme in order to support the start of the new Programme. One outcome of this conference was the idea to invest further resources into a very crucial group of stakeholders supporting the quality development at various levels: Trainers
Over the past few years, training of/for youth trainers at European level has become a key working area for many structures and institutions traditionally involved in youth worker training. Given the limited human and financial resources available for this kind of training, many stakeholders identified the need to try and develop a coherent training strategy for trainers at European level.
Please find below some pieces of a mosaic, which aims to support the development of a common European level Training of Trainers strategy and herewith the recognition of different aspects:
It should be stressed, that the development of a common strategy has to be seen as a longer journey, including as many as possible actors active in this field. Thus, different stakeholders were and should be invited to contribute to the discusions at different moments and levels, during seminars, conferences and even within virtual communication. And a common development at European level needs time, because there are various interests to understand and to cover within a common strategy and i need to be considered that this subject is not always at the top priority of the To-Do-List of crucial actors being involved in this journey.
BUT: The Stakeholders meeting in Budapest and it´s Follow Up activities showed quite well that there is a strong interest and wish at European level to undertake common steps towards the recognition of the still quite young profession "Trainer" within the non-formal European youth work. And looking at the engagement of the various actors, there seems to be the broader interest to foster further qualitative development of trainers and herewith finally the quality of projects for young people.
The SALTO Training and Co-operation RC will keep this subject further on the agenda(s) and hope to allow the many interested and various actors to keep an overview about recent developments at European level within the subpages of this webpage.
